Alright, let’s talk a little bit about instruments

Alright, for this post I’m ranking all the instruments in a normal band class at middle/high school (I’m just off of my band class). I’m going to order this from the front of the room to the back.

1. The flute. In my opinion, the flute is one of the top 3 best instruments in band class because they don’t squeak, you can barely hear them because everyone over powers them so if they screw up you would’ve never noticed and they sound beautiful about 85% of the time. I rate them 9/10.

2. The clarinet. I don’t like this instrument because you can hear the air coming from it and it’s just a gross sound in general. But overall they’re all pretty good players because their music is always the easiest out of the whole band. I rate them… 8/10.

3. Saxophones. I swear they don’t know what dynamics are because they are ALWAYS blasting in forte. But that’s mostly the tenor saxophones. There are a few people who are actually good and know what piano means. There’s only about 1 or 2 tenors that are actually good and the bari is usually really good, I mean if they weren’t, they wouldn’t a bari saxophone so it makes sense. I rate them 7/10.

This is getting to realm of where the hell does one instrument section end and where does another one start. I swear, I barely know how many instruments are IN the back row. Anyways, Ima get back to the instruments.

4. Trumpets. They’re either always way too loud or way too quiet. There’s no inbetween with them. They also aren’t the best and multiple people said they never practice and honestly, I can believe that. They ARE like the saxophones. There’s always one or 2 that actually try. 3-5/10.

5. The tubas. They’re just kinda there. They don’t really stand out but they’re pretty good. 7/10

6. The french horns. They’re kinda in the same situation as the tubas but a little more noticeable. They are really good though. 7/10.

7. Trombones. 1/10.

8. Percussion. The ones that always improve the most out of the whole band is percussion. I also have mad respect for the people who play or have to stand by snare. That instrument is so loud I swear I was going deaf the last time I sat next one.

This is just my opinion so don’t take it to heart if I said the instrument you played sucked. It’s not my fault that it sucks. Just saying. Anyhoo, that’s all of the instrument sections rated. If I missed an instrument, comment it! I wanted to end this with a poll to ask what I should do next but the poll plug isn’t working soooooooo, what’s something I haven’t done that’s considered an art? Comment what it is and I’ll most likely do it. Bye y’all.

Cotton Candy Skies (intro to painting skies and some trees)

Hey, how are yall doing? For my first post why not do an intro to painting basic things, like skies? For this post, I’m going to walk through my own personal process of painting skies. It may vary through different people but it’s just like art styles. No one really has the same style. I mean, unless it’s your job. You know, like an animator, or a comic illustrator of some sort… Alright, let’s get started!

Supplies

First off, go to Walmart and get yourself some painting supplies if you don’t have any already (I recommend the mini stretched canvases, the tiny easel, some cheapish brushes, and apple barrel paint). Don’t forget a water cup, I just use a jar but you can literally use anything. Except bowls and plates. Don’t use those things. Alright now that you got some supplies, turn on your favorite playlist (the kind you scream-sing to) or some relaxing music (like lofi hip-hop or some classical). Next, look up some references. You can use your own or use my reference for this.

Alright, now that we have everything we need, let’s get started.

How to paint the sky portion…

Cover your canvas in the background color. For my reference, it would be a light blue paint. You can dunk it into a whole can of paint if you want, I don’t care just make sure it’s your background color. After you paint the canvas the base color, grab a darker version of that color and make a gradient with it and the base color (make sure to pay attention what time of day the reference is taken. If it’s in the morning, the top half will be darker If it’s a sunset the bottom half will be darker). Next, grab a 10mm angled brush and your third color (that will be the color of your clouds) and start patting it really anywhere (it doesn’t really matter). Then spread the paint around to make it look like cirrus clouds. Add any highlights if needed. For the highlights, I use my finger to blend in the color after the clouds have slightly dried. You can also grab any brush and use really watered down paint.

Let the sky dry…

How to paint the trees (if you have any in your reference)…

Grab your thinnest brush and paint down where any visible branches, power lines, etc. would be. Also make the trunks of where you want the trees to go. They don’t have to be detailed, they’re just there so you have an idea of where the trees are going. Once you got that done, grab a fairly thick brush and pat down where the leaves are going. MAKE SURE your using your darkest tree color. NEVER start with the lightest color (unless your shading and not adding highlights). Add your highlights and some other details and then boom! You’re done.

Quick Question:

What type of painting would you like to learn (Landscapes, people, inanimate objects)?

Comment it!
